The study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of local antibacterial drugs in ophthalmology. The study included 20 adolescent children (40 eyes). Ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin concentrations in tears were monitored after ointments containing these antibiotics were placed in the conjunctival cavity. The results were compared to the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) for leading pathogens of inflammatory diseases of the anterior eye segment in children (H. Influensae and S. aureus). Eye ointment with ciprofloxacin (Oftotsipro) showed better results in maintaining the drug concentration in the tear (as compared to ofloxacin ophthalmic ointment). For this reason, the ophthalmic ointment Oftotsipro is recommended for use in children in the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the anterior eye segment.
Key words: inflammation of the appendages of the eye, conjunctivitis, blepharitis, eye ointment.
