The clinical features of multiple sclerosis (MS) are studied, as well as the changes revealed by magnetic-resonance tomography (MRT), with the presence of high titer of anti-thyroid antibodies. MS patients with high titers of antibodies to the thyroid antigens without thyroid dysfunction were compared with MS patients without thyroid disorders. We analyzed the course of demyelinating process, severity of neurological dysfunction, number and volume of MRI lesions in the two groups. Under the influence of autoimmune reaction to thyroid antigens, a more severe course of MS was observed, as well as the larger number and volume of T2 lesions foci revealed by MRT, which may indicate an increase in the activity of demyelinating process under the second autoimmune process. The MS patients with the increasing titer of antithyroid antibodies should be observed additionally for the timely correction of the treatment.

Key words: multiple sclerosis, thyroid gland, autoimmune thyroiditis, antithyroid antibodies.
