In order to reveal the specifics of social functioning of multiple sclerosis patients, we studied the characteristics of social functioning and social support in 145 patients with relapsing-remitting and secondary progressive multiple sclerosis. Experimental psychological method, based on the special questionnaire “Level of social frustration” and the Russian-language version of the F-SOZU-22 of social support questionnaire, was used for the study. It was found that a significant part of the patients suffered from social frustration associated with deterioration of health due to illness. The social support which they got from their environment did not give them a sense of confidence and security.
Key words: multiple sclerosis, social functioning, social frustration, social support.
