Achalasia of cardia is the disease characterized by the absence or insufficient reflex relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter, whereby violation of esophageal obstruction occurs. The main symptoms are: dysphagia, chest pain and regurgitation of food. Esophagographic with contrast by barium and esophageal manometry allows confirmation of the diagnosis in the majority of patients. Gastric air bubble is absent on roentgenologic flat plate of the chest cavity and in some cases a cylindrical mass in the mediastinum of the aorta  is determined. After staining with barium an advanced esophagus, fluid-filled, with narrow distal part is visible. Treatment of achalasia of cardia includes treatment by nitrates and calcium channel blockers, pneumatic dilatation under endoscopic control and esophagomyotomy. Against the background of achalasia of cardia, fungal esophagitis, most often caused by fungi of the genus Candida, can develop. A clinical example of a pregnant patient who was diagnosed this disease is considered.

Kew words: achalasia of cardia, candidal esophagitis, complications in pregnancy.
